“When I grow up, I want to be…”
Most four year olds love answering this question. An astronaut, a vet, a chef, a builder, a firefighter or even a dinosaur!
We want our children to dream BIG and chase their dreams. Our dream at Sunshine Mini School is for all of our children to be successful learners so they have choices when they are older and love what they do. We want our children to make a difference in the world and to be happy and content. Loving what you do is the key to so much happiness.
Reading, writing, using numbers, making decisions, exploring, investigating is something we all use in our everyday life. We want to show our children the importance of these areas through showing them how we as adults use them at home, work and in our community.
What do you do? Do you ever use numbers at work?
Do you have to read or write throughout the day?
It may be reading instructions, signage, writing a report, writing down appointments?
Stop and think about all the times during the day that you read words, write words or numbers. It could be a map, a measuring tape, instructions on how to cook something, list of jobs or a shopping list, the T.V guide, a menu. There are hundreds of examples.
Our children need to have real life examples of why reading and writing and mathematics are so important to give them a purpose of why they need these skills.
